Tasting Notes
Nose: Fresh oak, rye and wood spice galore, barrel char, caramel, herbal with dill and oregano, black tea, floral with notes of vanilla.
Palate: Medium to thick mouth feel, a burst of spices (chiefly oak, rye, and cinnamon), brown sugar, peppermint, dill weed, vanilla, pumpernickel bread. Slightly drying and drinks well below proof.
Finish: Long and intense, brown sugar, oak and lingering baking spices. Really well balanced.
Rating: 93/100 – Incredible | An all time favorite
Everything that I love about the standard Lot 40 dialed up to 11. The full proof and extra aging do wonders for a rye that manages to deliver in every area. Notes of brown sugar, peppermint, and a bouquet of spice travel with you through an incredible whisky experience. I love how Lot 40 manages to incorporate so many of my favorite American rye notes while maintaining that signature Canadian style. It really makes it one of the more unique pours in the category of North American rye whisky. Overall this second release of Lot 40 Cask Strength is a remarkable pour and I’m thankful that I was able to to secure a backup bottle.
