Nose: Caramel, vanilla, spearmint, oak, furniture polish, acrylic paint (like walking into a Guitar Center)
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, oaky, caramel, vanilla, light on the rye spices but some black pepper appears, anise
Finish: Medium length, slightly drying, chocolate and more mint
Rating: 74/100 – Great | Well above average
A lovely release from Crown Royal. Its 16 years give it a great oak backbone and enough depth of flavor to keep it interesting, even at 45%. I picked this up for $67 and at that price I think there are very few available ryes that hold up against this and the age statement is a nice perk. I’d recommend this to any rye lover looking for an easy sipper that still has some complexity.
