Tasting Notes
Nose: Dark with charred oak, cherry, vanilla, spearmint, clove, and brown sugar.
Palate: Light to medium mouth feel – definitely on the lighter side for barrel proof but it handles the proof well, tannic, cocoa powder, drying oak, cinnamon spice, more clove, coffee, and brown sugar.
Finish: Medium to long length, dark chocolate, clove, heavy oak, black cherry, vanilla and lingering mint.
Rating: 74/100 – Great | Well above average
A very interesting pick and one that I’ve come to enjoy more over time. There’s a ton of heavily charred barrel influence coming through but none of the thicker mouth feel that I’ve come to associate with these oak bombs. It’s not entirely cohesive but the darker dessert profile shines through and it’s a tasty treat. I’m definitely interested in trying more from Driftless Glen because this pick is unlike any other rye I’ve tasted.
