Nose: Clove, spearmint, rye bread, cinnamon, allspice, vanilla, and oak. A routine but pleasant high-rye nose.
Palate: Medium mouth feel with a heft to it, spice forward with black pepper, a lot more mint and clove, vanilla, caramel sweetness, and a touch of green apple.
Finish: Medium length, a pop of spearmint followed by rye and black pepper spices, more caramel, and a hint of oak.
Rating: 76/100 – Great | Well above average
Straightforward and tasty. This New Riff Single Barrel is a flavorsome rye that has just reached maturity. It’s full of bright spices and herbal notes, but doesn’t come with much oak influence. It’s one of the better ryes that I’ve had at this age and compares well against 4 year MGP picks. I’m willing to bet that New Riff will be putting out some legendary rye in just a few more years.
