Tasting Notes
Nose: Meaty, industrial funk, sherry sweetness with red berries, plenty of minerality and some salt, peat smoke, and lemon.
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, oily, a big hit of spice. This almost drinks like it’s lightly carbonated. Brine, honey, quite fruity with more berries and a little orange peel.
Finish: Medium to long length, black pepper, caramel, raspberries, peat smoke, and salt.
Rating: 85/100 – Excellent | Really quite exceptional
Wow. This is a huge Springbank that packs a lot of spice. There is plenty of sherry influence at work here, even with the cask ratio on these newer releases now favoring ex-bourbon barrels, but the Springbank malt character is still the star of the show. It manages to hit all the classic notes, although I will say that they feel a bit jumbled. It seems the refinement that I found in the 15 Year has been swapped for boldness in the 12 Year CS. Still, it’s another delicious release from my favorite Campbeltown distillery and I’m happy with the price I paid.
