Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered Batch 36, 57.68%
Nose: Loads of dry toasted oak, some sharp ethanol, rye spice, maple, mint, leather and caramel
Palate: Medium to thick mouthfeel, oily with plenty of spices, orange rind, hot cinnamon candies, more caramel with brown sugar, lots of oak, drinks hot
Finish: Medium to long, brown sugar, spice lingers with a drying and tannic mouth feel
Rating: 79/100 – Great | Well above average
Surprisingly hot stuff but a very nicely done barrel proof bourbon. It’s quite sugary with some nicely integrated oak and rye spices. My bottle has definitely benefitted from some extra air time which has done wonders to temper the harsher ethanol notes I was picking up on my first pour. It’s a tier below Elijah Craig BP and Stagg Jr. for me, but Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered is still an excellent buy at MSRP ($60) if it’s in your area.
Additional Info: A blend of 4, 6 and 10 year barrels sourced from MGP, mash bill is 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley
