Recipe: A blend of malted barley, unmalted barley, and rye whisky. Aged in an ex-bourbon cask and finished in French oak.

Distiller: Shelter Point

Country/Region: Canada/British Columbia

Tasting Notes

Nose: Dark and fruity, cola, french oak, slightly sour, molasses, grapes and dates.

Palate: Light to medium mouth feel, chalky, sweet, lots of cola and root beer, coffee, bitter oak, grapes.

Finish: Short to medium length, drying, oak spice, and lingering sweetness.

Rating: 67/100 – Good | Better than average

Not my favorite whisky that I’ve tried from Shelter Point. It’s not bad just… bizarre. I would have loved to try this same blend without the dominating French Oak finish for comparison. Overall still a solid dessert pour though and cool to see Shelter Point experimenting with different grain types.
