Tasting Notes
Nose: Oak, chocolate, mint, spice, lots of clove, caramel, some fruit: orange, apple?
Palate: Medium to thick mouth feel, drinks well below its proof, there’s plenty of oak but also a really nice rye character underneath. Herbal and mint forward. Most fruit towards the back and traditional bourbon notes of vanilla and sweet caramel.
Finish: Long, chocolate and oak, tons of mint spice, some tannins, and an interesting peach note.
Rating: 89/100 – Excellent | Really quite exceptional
A fantastic pick from Garfield’s and my first time trying the OBSF recipe. Given its flavor description of “delicate rye and mint”, I had a suspicion that I may enjoy it more than the standard OBSV, and it did not disappoint. This particular bottle didn’t quite reach the highs of tier 6 OBSQ Kappy’s pick that I reviewed previously, but I think I’ve found a new favorite Four Roses recipe.
Additional Info: This is the OBSF recipe which is known for “delicate rye and mint”. The barrel was aged on tier 4.
