Nose: Peat, maritime notes of sea salt and seaweed, lemon peel, pear, salted caramel, buttery popcorn, fresh and lively
Palate: Medium to thick mouth feel, creamy, loads of black pepper spice but not hot, sweet and salty, barbecue, medium peat, apples, pears, citrus and honey sweetness
Finish: Salty, peppery, fruity, medium to long length, lingering peat and smoke
Rating: 87/100 – Excellent | Really quite exceptional
This is my first bottle of Caol Ila and I’m loving it. It does an excellent job of marrying sweet with peat without needing to rely on sherry casks. Instead the malt character can shine and bring loads of salty maritime notes and bright citrus fruits. Clean and wonderfully balanced. Awesome stuff.
