Tasting Notes
Nose: Inviting with honey, vanilla and rye spice. There’s some floral character followed by fruit notes of banana and red apple.
Palate: Thin to medium mouth feel, cinnamon spice, lots of vanilla, more floral notes and brown sugar sweetness.
Finish: Medium length, mild spice, lingering brown sugar and red apple.
Rating: 68/100 – Good | Better than average
Blanton’s is a solid bourbon that has become another unfortunate victim of the Buffalo Trace hype machine. The nose is great but while the palate and finish hit those classic bourbon notes, they don’t offer anything else that I would consider noteworthy. At its roughly $60 MSRP, Blanton’s is already priced at the higher end of what I feel the whiskey inside is worth, although the admittedly gorgeous bottle is a nice plus. It’s a bourbon that everyone should try at least once, if only to learn that allocated isn’t necessarily better.
