Barrell Armida, 56.05%
Nose: Pear, grapes, sweet vermouth, banana, honey, raisins, rich and sweet
Palate: Thick and syrupy mouthfeel, funky Jamaican rum, fruity, mint and floral notes, slightly hot, Negroni-like balance of sweet and bitter
Finish: Pear brandy dominates here, spicy and sweet, slightly drying, long
Rating: 78/100 – Great | Well above average
What a crazy bottle! The three cask finishes come together to form something akin to a high proof cocktail. The end result is unique and delicious but unfortunately masks the bourbon backbone too much. I’d recommend this to the whiskey drinker who doesn’t mind Amaro and is looking to try something different.
