Tasting Notes
Nose: A familiar profile yet beautifully executed. Rich oak dominates, complemented by cherries, caramel, vanilla, and toasted oak. Notes of chocolate, cinnamon, clove, mint, and faint coconut follow.
Palate: Medium mouthfeel and surprisingly lively for its age. The oak spice takes center stage, vibrant and robust without feeling overdone. Notes of vanilla, caramel, and red apple bring sweetness against the some of the heavier tannins that appear over time.
Finish: Long and satisfying, with lingering chocolate, oak, baking spices, and a hint of tobacco.
Rating: 88/100 – Excellent | Really quite exceptional
Lorely offers everything you’d expect from a well aged, barrel proof bourbon, but it excels in its balance. There’s something mysterious about these older lower ABV barrels that helps them retain a bit of youth. It’s definitely lighter on the palate than some might prefer but it doesn’t come across to me as thin. Instead the tannins help to give it a good structure and the approachable proof encourages thoughtful sipping. Overall it’s an excellent release.
